5 tips for perfect ‘work from anywhere’ staycations
After a year of forced working from home, it’s not surprising that we’re starting to get a bit fed up of seeing the same four walls every day. If working from home is leaving you feeling a bit flat, why not use remote working to your advantage and work from ‘home’ somewhere different? Combining a holiday with working remotely allows you to spend more time away, settle into a place and ‘live like a local’. Here are our top tips for the perfect work-from-anywhere staycation.
1. The early bird…
Make the most of the morning to get up and outside before you start work. A ten minute stroll, coffee in the local café or a trip to the food market is just the ticket for perspective and fresh air before the day begins. The peace and quiet of the early morning can make you feel right at home, and lets you experience hushed morning activities that other sleepyheads miss. Whether it’s a walk along a Cornish coast path, a quick swim in the Med or a cycle to the village for croissants, getting up a little earlier to create your own special morning calm will get you through the day - whatever it throws at you.
2. Get the gear
Make sure you’ve got a good set-up for working. Whether it’s a sturdy wooden table in a remote farmhouse kitchen or a coffee table on your hotel balcony, having somewhere comfortable to work makes the day a lot easier. Hunching over your laptop in bed might seem like a holiday option, but your back won’t thank you for it later. And it might seem obvious, but before you book your trip, check that the WiFi is good enough for those notorious zoom calls or risk being forced into the stop-start conversations that I think we’ve all had enough of over the last year.
3. Adventurous lunches
Swap the beans on toast for something local and liven up the middle of your day with a trip outside. There’s no need to look online, often the most memorable meals are at places you just happen upon (if there are a few locals you can be pretty sure it’ll be good!). For a real switch off, leave your phone in your room - just make sure you remember the way back!
4. Evening exploring
Whether cosying up by the fire in Scotland or enjoying an aperitif in a sunny square on the Italian coast, shut that laptop and treat your evenings like a mini weekend. There are train and bus services late into the evening in the UK and Europe so it’s easy to pop somewhere different for a nice dinner and a change of scene. Just be sure to check the timetable so you don’t miss the last train!
5. A holiday from a holiday
We think the best adventures are journeys through a few different places. So after a few days working in one place, moving somewhere new for a few days off work adds a whole new level of excitement and gives you time to do full day activities. Picture a day vineyard-hopping by bike in France, or climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland (if you book with us, we’ll suggest activities with different lengths and help with you how can best fit it all in).
