Byway becomes a certified B Corp Pending company

We are delighted to share that we have been certified B Corp Pending!

Having a 'Pending' B Corp Status means we're on track to certify as a B Corp when we're eligible in 12 months time. This is big news, as we will join the likes of Patagonia and over 2,700 other companies across the globe who stand behind their greater purpose.

B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. As a Pending B Corp, we’ve amended our legal governing documents to require our directors to balance profit and purpose, and have achieved a high score in the B Impact Assessment based on our future intentions. Certified B Corps look after their staff, work toward a more inclusive supply chain, and use the power of business to solve social and environmental issues.

We founded Byway in the midst of the first global lockdown our world has ever seen, with all travel at a complete standstill. We founded Byway with a vision that travel could come back better on the other side. We want to provide incredible holidays that help people find joy in flight-free journeys. We want them to enjoy every minute of their holiday, including and especially the travel. And we have environmental and social goals that are core to what we are building - and the choices we’re making about how we build it.

The travel industry needs to combat over-tourism. Today, tourists congregate around airport hubs and capital cities. Communities become overwhelmed by tourists, and the natural environment suffers. Through Byway, we want to open up an ecosystem around the less travelled parts of the world. We want to help people find communities and stimulate economies in areas that could really benefit from tourism. We want to help them discover the world through ground travel, without being so restricted by airports. We want travellers to spread out and discover more incredible places.

And, of course, all of our journeys are flight-free. We're about the trains, the boats, the bikes, the buses - and our ultimate goal is to accelerate the transition of the world to a sustainable travel ecosystem, which only happens when people fly less.

Being a B Corp helps focus our attention on these environmental and social objectives, and it makes us accountable for those goals to our shareholders and ourselves. It also keeps how we look after our team and our community front of mind. Being a B Corp isn’t just about the mission - it's also about how you do business, how you build a company and culture.
